The Art of Bach concert highlights one of Johann Sebastian Bach’s most fascinating creations – The Art of Fugue, presented in the orchestral version arranged by Erich Bergel.
Under the direction of Gabriel Bebeșelea, known for his passion for rediscovering and recontextualizing timeless masterpieces, The Art of Fugue becomes not only an exercise in admiration of Bach’s genius but also a sonic meditation on order, balance, and eternity in music.
Written in the final years of Bach’s life, The Art of Fugue is a synthesis of Bach’s musical thinking, a study of counterpoint brought to perfection, and simultaneously a reflection on order and balance in music. The work remained unfinished and without an indicated instrumentation, inspiring over time numerous versions and interpretations. Erich Bergel’s transcription – Bergel, a conductor and composer of Transylvanian origin, praised for his clear and spiritual vision of Bach’s music – brings these pages into the symphonic realm, preserving the rigor of counterpoint while enriching it with a bright and balanced orchestral palette.
