The International Timișoara Music Festival appeared at the initiative of the great musicians Nicolae Boboc – conductor and director of the Romanian Opera in Timișoara, and Ion Românu – conductor and director of the “Banatul” Philharmonic in Timișoara, in the 1968-1969 season. This was thought to be the event of the year, a manifestation of high class event. After the 6th edition, the festival becomes annual, and since 1993, international.
