SILVIA CAREDDU

Silvia Careddu made an auspicious start to her career by winning unanimously the First Prize and the Audience Prize at the 56. Concours International de Musique de Genève. Following the award, Lorin Maazel invited Silvia to become Principal flute for his newly founded Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini. Holding the same position, she later joined the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Wiener Symphoniker and the Wiener Philharmoniker – Wiener Staatsoper.

Since 2021, Silvia Careddu is Principal Flute of the Orchestre National de France, in Paris. She has been guest principal flautist as well with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Mito Chamber Orchestra (Japan), Budapest Festival Orchestra, West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.
In 2012 Silvia became artistic partner of the Kammerakademie Potsdam, winner of the Opus Preis for the best german orchestra in 2015 and in 2022.

Silvia Careddu is a founder member of the Alban Berg Ensemble Wien, flexible chamber music group with which she records for the Deutsche Grammophon and Decca.

She is regularly invited to important festivals as a soloist and chamber music partner, among which Schleswig Holstein, Salzburg Festspiel, Cartagena, Festival des Arcs, Bürgenstock Festival, Australian National Academy for Music, Festival de Pollenca, Festival de Salon, Musiktage Mondsee, Festival Berlioz, Riva del Garda, Hitzacker Festival, Flautissimo, Festival de Colmar, Styriarte, Rolandseck Festival, Asiago Music Festival.

Professor at the Zürich Hochschule der Künste-ZHdK, she teaches in London as well, at the Royal Academy of Music as Visiting Professor and in Italy at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and at the Fondazione Accademia di Imola. From 2011 to 2021 Silvia Careddu taught in Berlin, at the “Hanns Eisler” Hochschule für Musik and at the Barenboim-Said Akademie.

She regularly gives masterclasses in Europe, Asia and USA.

Silvia Careddu serves and presides important international competitions, including the Concours International de Musique de Genève, the A. Nicolet Competition, the Premio Abbado, Concours M. Larrieu, Crusell international competition, the Prague Spring international competition, Kobe Flute international Competition in Japan.

Born in Cagliari (Italy), she studied at the Conservatoire de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she graduated with distinctions.

She owes important musical influences to A. Nicolet, R. Ghiani, E. Pahud, R. Guiot, F. Souchard.
