Under the title Imperial, the symphonic concert on May 8 features two emblematic works of the Romantic era.
In the first half, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, op. 73, “Emperor,” provides soloist Alexei Volodin the perfect framework to showcase the power, clarity, and nobility of the piano discourse. Considered one of the monumental concertos in the piano repertoire, the “Emperor” stands out for its expansive dialogue with the orchestra and the heroic character of its themes.
The second half is dedicated to Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 in A minor, op. 56, “Scottish,” a work inspired by the landscapes and atmosphere of the North.
A program that traces distinct stylistic horizons, united under the baton of Lawrence Foster, in an evening that highlights the elegance and expressiveness of the great symphonic repertoire.
