MANUELA IANA-MIHĂILESCU and DRAGOȘ MIHĂILESCU make up a piano duo that has a rich repertoire dedicated to the four-hands piano or the two-pianos ensemble. Since the fall of 2011, Duo Mihăilescu has been the official chamber ensemble of the Banatul Philharmonic in Timișoara. They performed in concert halls in Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Sweden, Serbia, Hungary, Greece and Norway.
The ensemble recorded three CDs: a CD with pieces for piano four hands by Franz Schubert and Johannes Brahms (Videoton, 1998), a CD entitled Dances, with pieces by Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Antonín Dvořák, Edvard Grieg, Constantin Silvestri (Show Factory, 2006) and Duo Mihăilescu CD: with compositions by Schubert, Brahms and Rahmaninov (Show Factory, 2008).
In 2006, they performed the complete repertoire for piano for four hands and for two pianos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in recitals in Romania, Sweden and Spain.
Duo Mihăilescu also tackles with great mastery the repertoire for two pianos and orchestra, in concerts with the orchestras of the Romanian Philharmonics. In September 2013, the ensemble participated in the George Enescu International Festival with a concert held at the Banatul Philharmonic in Timișoara. During the 2009 American-Romanian Festival, the pianists performed together with the Banatul Philharmonic Orchestra the Concerto for Two Pianos by Francis Poulenc under the baton of conductor Emily Freeman Brown (USA).
Duo Mihăilescu was invited to numerous important festivals, among which we find appropriate to mention: The Klavierwoche Festival in Heidelberg (Germany), the Pianorama Festival in Florence (Italy), the Romanian Cultural Center in Szeged (Hungary), the Cohilia Festival in Limni (Greece), the Neckar Musikfestival (Germany), the Brianza Classica Festival and the Autonno Musicale Festival (Caserta, Italy).
