STEFAN GEIGER

Born into a family of musicians, STEFAN GEIGER started playing the piano, violin, percussion and trombone at the age of five. After studies financed by the German Academic Foundation Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, he became solo trombonist at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. He later held the same position at the NDR Elbphilharmonic Orchestra Hamburg. Following his conducting studies, he was assistant conductor to Christoph Eschenbach, Valery Gergiev and Christoph von Dohnanyi, after which he became artistic director of the Landesjugendorchester Bremen and conducted the HFK Orchestra in Bremen (Hochschule für Künste Bremen, 2002-2007). Stefan Geiger has conducted numerous orchestras, including the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, Ensemble Resonanz, Würzburger Philharmoniker, Nürnberger Symphoniker, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal, Transilvania State Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfônica da Universidade de Sao Paulo la Sala Sao Paulo, and the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra at Teatro Colon in Argentina.
He frequently conducts the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester Hamburg, being principal conductor of Orquestra Sinfônica do Parana (Curitiba, Brazil) since 2016, and in the 2022-2023 season guest principal conductor of the Banatul Philharmonic in Timișoara.
His career highlights include being a permanent guest conductor of the Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchestra and the Elbphilharmonie. This season, he will make his debut at the Orchestra Sinfônica Brasileira in Rio de Janeiro, the Volkstheater in Rostock (Germany), the Radio Philharmonie Hannover (Germany), the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra (Israel), the Oulu Symphony Orchestra (Finland) and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (Scotland).
